Bakers Gonna Bake

Baking. It’s been my thing for a while. Ten or more years if we’re counting. I’ve been baking for friends and family, and the random celebrity at conventions I attend since 2010.

At first it was just cookies. Oatmeal Chocolate Chip if I remember correctly. For Twilight conventions. Yes, I’m a convention-attending weirdo. It’s one of my escapes from reality, and I’ve met some of my very best friends through conventions.

In 2012 I attended my very first convention for the hit TV show, The Vampire Diaries. I met three actors who have become more like friends than just another actor at this point. They have been so so supportive of me and my baking.

One of them in particular, Michael Trevino, who played Tyler Lockwood on the show, has been telling me since I met him that I need to have a bakery or a baking business. Every time I see or talk to him.

Having a home based baking business has always been something that I’ve wanted to do, but I could never financially afford it, nor did I have a space where I could do it.

That changed this year. I FINALLY got a second kitchen. A space that I helped design, that’s just for baking. And I absolutely love it. I spent months prepping and planning. Watching for sales on appliances, and figuring everything out.

As of September 1, 2020, I could officially say that I have a Home Processor’s License in the state of New York. What does that mean?

It means that I can sell baked goods within the state of New York, whether it be at Farmers Markets, Craft Fairs, Flea Markets, or through online sales, which can be shipped or delivered throughout New York.

It means that I no longer have to limit myself to baking for just friends and family. And while I will ALWAYS be grateful to the four friends who basically started the friends and family baking list, it paved the way for this. The next step. Baking for people I don’t know. Or possibly doing Markets, etc.

You know I had to tell all my friends, and that even means the famous ones 😻. Telling my actor friends made me even more nervous. Friends and family are naturally supportive (usually). Actors? I learned just how supportive they can be.

I never expected the responses I got. I cried (happy cry) from one of the messages. I expected support and them being happy. I did not expect one of them to want to post on their Instagram page.

It’s been a busy month and a half since then. To be honest, October is normally my busy time anyway. Most people say that holidays are their busiest times of the year. Mine is fall/Halloween. Fall baking is my favorite baking.

I still don’t have a huge amount of orders, just starting out will do that. But I’m baking more (ever single week), trying out new recipes and techniques, and I’m posting more on my baking instagram than I have in a while.

The next few months and, 2021 are going to be interesting in the least.
